The last few decades have seen the empowerment of Muslim women around the world. In Europe, Muslim feminists struggle against racism and discrimination on the one hand and conservative interpretations of Islam and patriarchal cultural norms on the other. They use many methods: comedy, citizen journalism, standing for parliament, poetry, music, rallies, re-interpretation of the Quran, and they start mosques led by female imams. In other words, young Muslim men and women are producing a European Islam that promises emancipation and individual freedom.
