III. Coursework, Exams, and Final Grade Reports
1. Completion of Required Course Work and Examinations/Tests: All work for a course must be submitted on time for a student to be eligible for a passing grade. Students are responsible for handing in all coursework on time. Assignments handed in after the due date will earn 0 points, or, downgraded percentage, according to the instructor’s own guidelines. Students are responsible for arriving on time for all examinations and written or oral tests. Exams or tests can take place on any scheduled class or exam day during the published dates of the semester. Faculty reserve the right to change dates of tests with notice, as long as alternative times fall within the regular course schedule.
2. Proctors: Following the European model, your instructors might not be present during exams. Proctors are responsible for seeing that the exam regulations are followed. They are not responsible for interpreting exam questions. Proctors will report any violations of the exam regulations to the Registrar. During the exam period, rules will be fully enforced by the proctors. These rules include but are not limited to the following:
- No communication between students is allowed during the exam.
- Students are expected to arrive on time and will not be given additional time if they arrive late
- Failing to follow the proctor’s instructions, cheating, or disrupting a test will result in zero points on the test, possible expulsion from DIS, and notification of your home campus.
3. Final Grade Reports: You will receive an email report of your unofficial final grades 30 days after the end of the term. A hard copy will be mailed to your home university automatically from the DIS North American Office. Final grades will be withheld if you owe money to DIS or related institutions, have not returned library books, or have outstanding restitution due to damage of housing or DIS facilities.

4. Full-year students: Students who will be staying at DIS for multiple semesters must achieve a minimum of a 2.5 GPA while at DIS and maintain good standing in all previous semesters in order to continue at DIS.
5. Use of Laptops and Other Electronic Devices in Class: While the use of computers or phones during class is generally not permitted, in some specific classes and with the instructor’s permission, students may use them for class-related purposes.
6. Submitting Work Electronically: If you are submitting work electronically, it is your responsibility to make sure that the file is readable and not corrupted. An assignment that arrives in an unreadable state will not be considered as delivered. If you submit work on Canvas, you receive a receipt automatically.
7. Posting Academic Assignments Online: Students creating content for an academic assignment that will be posted online (videos, photos, papers, social media posts, etc.), should keep in mind the privacy of any interviewees/subjects cited. Students should either have their written permission to post about them (email is acceptable but must be retained), and/or not use real names. If an academic project requires the use of the DIS brand in a website, social media page or hashtag, blog, or in printed material, permission must be explicitly granted by the Communications & Marketing Department (firstname.lastname@example.org) prior to the project being implemented.
8. Grades: Points are given rather than letter grades on all assignments. Many assignments will be out of 100 and automatically will be calculated into letter grades by Canvas at the end of the semester: Plus (+) and minus (-) grades are used for final grades. For purposes of calculating grade points and averages, the “+” is equal to plus .3 and the “-” is equal to minus .3. The average of the individual grades multiplied by their respective weights determines the final grade as indicated below:

9. Off-site classrooms: Classroom locations and directions to class spaces outside DIS, including external research labs, will be given during the Academic Program orientations during the Arrival Workshop. Please remember that DIS policies apply in all classes, including those that take place in locations other than Melodislingan 21. Arriving on time to all classes is a requirement, so research accurate directions and give yourself additional time before off-site class meetings.
10. Library: The DIS Stockholm library collections include books, periodicals, films, and other materials in English specific to the fields covered by the DIS curriculum, in addition to general reading material and resources specific to Sweden. The front desk staff can provide immediate assistance during their opening hours or contact email@example.com for additional information and support. In addition to these materials on site, you can access multiple Academic Databases any time, both on-site and remotely (instructions are provided). DIS Stockholm also recommends that you visit the many outstanding public and nearby institutional libraries in and around Stockholm. Here is a list of the major libraries to be found in central Stockholm. Forms to open accounts in both the public libraries and the Royal Institute of Technology/Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH) can be found at Front Desk. All Stockholm university libraries have ‘walk-in-use’ – you may enter and use materials on-site, though access to online resources varies from institution to institution.
11. Academic assistance: Support is available. Please do not wait until you are overwhelmed to seek academic support. You may schedule an appointment with a member of the Academics team by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org or by stopping by our office hours in E-410 from 09.30-12.00 each weekday.
12. Academic Accommodations: DIS is committed to supporting students who receive academic accommodations at their home school: You must submit a letter from your home campus describing the support you currently receive prior to arrival in Stockholm. Not all accommodations provided in the US are available at DIS but, when possible, DIS will support students needing accommodations.
