More and more young people identify as transgender — the sense of there being a mismatch between one’s gender identity and the sex assigned at birth. What accounts for this rise? What can society in general, and healthcare in particular, do to support people who identify as transgender?
Cecilia Dhejne Helmy is a psychiatrist and clinical sexologist specializing in trans healthcare. She is the author of many oft-cited publications on transgender medicine, and the trans organization Full Personality Expression Sweden (FPES) awarded her The Trans Hero of 2016.
