Faculty Member Publishes Book on the History of Gay Men in Denmark

European Humanities faculty member, Anders Larsen launched new book at the Copenhagen Book Fair.

DIS DIS Copenhagen Semester

Together with the chair of Copenhagen Pride, Lars Henriksen, DIS faculty member, Anders Larsen has written a book on the history of gay men in Denmark. The book was launched this past weekend at the Copenhagen Book Fair.

Anders Larsen comments:

“Writing history is about perspectives. For many years, history was only written from the point of view of those in power. This book is an attempt to write a historically marginalized group into the grand narrative of the nation. We wanted to show how gay subculture has both shaped and been shaped by mainstream perspectives, as well as how it has operated according to its own logic in society and culture.”

The book was well-received at the Copenhagen Book Fair, and is featured in many Danish news outlets.
