Program Deposit Fee

A non-refundable Program Deposit fee of $500 USD is required in order to confirm your place in the program. If you are not certain whether you pay the deposit or whether your school pays it on your behalf, please check with your study abroad advisor or contact the DIS North American Office at (612) 301-7200.

This deposit will be deducted from the invoice issued to you or to the institution that issues payment for you.

Cancellation and Change Fees

For more information on additional fees due to cancellations or changes – from the full DIS semester to housing, to trips, go to Cancellation and Change Fees.

School of Record Fee

DIS issues a Final Grade Report after completion of your term of attendance and many U.S. institutions accept this report for credit directly from DIS. The University of Minnesota is the DIS school of record, which issues official transcripts to institutions that are unable to accept the DIS Final Grade Report as documentation of credit earned abroad. There is an additional fee of $450 for this service, which will be added to your invoice.

You will receive additional information about the school of record during program registration. Final Grade Reports and/or University of Minnesota official transcripts will only be issued if all fees have been paid to DIS and there are no academic or administrative holds on your record.

Estimated Additional Expenses

While much of your semester is covered by DIS, there are additional expenses you should keep in mind and budget for. Denmark and Sweden can be expensive, and it is important that you budget accordingly while living abroad, as well as traveling throughout Europe on your own independent travels.

Here are some examples of additional expenses you should foresee and an estimate on the amount you should budget:

Expense Type Estimate (USD)
Residence permit Copenhagen: $365, or Stockholm: $155 (note: these fees are subject to change)
International airfare $1,000 – $1,500
Meals/per month $200 – $550 per month (after DIS stipend for students living in Residential Communities or Kollegiums) / estimate is less for Homestay students
Cell Phone Per your use/plan
Additional Personal Expenses $1,000 – $3,000 per semester
