Fall Semester 2020 FAQs

DIS is committed to student safety and our students are our top priority. We hope the following FAQs will be helpful as you plan your future study abroad experience. We will continue to update these FAQs as we know more and situations change.

Q / Will DIS refund me if my semester is canceled?

A / In the event that you withdraw or DIS cancels the fall semester before it begins, we will refund all fees (including the program deposit). See details on our Cancellation and Change Fees page.

Q / My university has canceled all study abroad programs for Fall 2020. Can I still attend DIS?

A / Each university is instituting different policies around program cancellation. Please talk to your study abroad office about what your options are and reach out to DIS if you have further questions.

Q / If I am an accepted student, can I defer to a future term?

A / Yes, if you are an accepted DIS fall student and wish to defer, please email dis@umn.edu and a member of the DIS Enrollment Team will walk you through the next steps. Successful deferment is dependent on approval by your home institution.

Q / Will DIS be running Study Tours during Fall 2020?

A / We are planning to run Study Tours if at all possible, but we may need to modify the dates, locations, itineraries, lodging, and/or transportation. We have a lot of great ideas to make amended tours meaningful and exciting, but will make these decisions at a later date based on travel restrictions and local conditions. Therefore, please hold off on making any independent travel plans connected to your Study Tours.

Q / I was planning on traveling around Europe during my time abroad. Am I prohibited to travel independently by DIS?

A / DIS has not made any policy decisions regarding independent travel for the fall. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming months and make adjustments to our guidance regarding independent travel as necessary based on information from the Centers for Disease Control Travel Advisory (CDC), U.S. State Department Travel Advisory, Danish authorities, and Swedish authorities.

Q / What resources should I be checking as this develops?

A / Bookmark this page for the most up-to-date notifications on DIS programming. We also recommend frequently checking the Center for Disease Control Travel Advisory, World Health Organization, and U.S. State Department Travel Advisory.

You should closely monitor your home school’s study abroad page and keep an eye on your inbox for important communication.

We also encourage you to visit local resources about COVID-19 in Denmark and Sweden. For information related to travel risks and COVID-19, visit the CDC Travel Health Notices site.
