How do you build your summer with DIS?

A summer session is a study period offered with varying durations and credit loads. For instance, some sessions are 3 weeks long and provide 3 credits, while others are 6 weeks long and offer 6 credits. These sessions can be held in various locations, including Copenhagen, Stockholm, or Greenland.

Choose one course per session. Get the most out of your summer by staying for multiple sessions. Here are a few ways to combine them.

Experience new ways of learning in small classes with highly skilled and engaged faculty. Use the city as your classroom and gain a greater understanding of the world.

+ Pursue your academic goals
+ Experience two Scandinavian capitals
+ Develop your skills and build your resumé
+ Engage with new cultures through place-based learning

Explore summer scholarships

We want to help you make your summer abroad happen, which is why DIS offers summer scholarships. We also recommend external scholarships such as the Gilman Scholarship, Fund for Education Abroad, and more.

Experience summer in Scandinavia

Summer is a special time in Scandinavia, where locals flock outside to enjoy the seemingly endless daylight and the numerous festivals and events.

You can make yourself at home in each city, swimming in the Copenhagen canals, exploring Stockholm’s archipelago, and joining in midsummer traditions.

Explore ways to engage locally.

Explore Europe on Study Tour

Travel to a different European destination on a faculty-led Study Tour to see your course topic in real-life contexts in a new culture.

Study Tour is included in all courses under Session 2, Architecture & Design Session, Furniture Design Sessions, and select courses in Labs, Research, & Practicums Session.

Transportation between sessions

If you choose multiple Summer Sessions in both Stockholm and Copenhagen, DIS provides transportation between the cities at the end of your session. The bus ride includes stops for sightseeing, lunch, and a chance to connect with fellow students on the same journey.

You may also arrange your own travel if you prefer. Check-in at your new housing starts on Arrival Day.

Arctic Experiential Studies: Greenland

Summer 2027 – 6 weeks | 6 credits

The Arctic sits at the center of today’s major global challenges, including climate change and rising geopolitical tensions. Greenland offers a rare and powerful lens through which to explore these dynamics.

This fully funded, six-week summer session takes you beyond the classroom and into one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions. With time spent in both Copenhagen and Greenland, you’ll explore the Arctic through hands-on fieldwork, transdisciplinary courses, and deep cultural engagement.

Designed for students with a strong sense of purpose, this program combines academic rigor with embodied learning and a commitment to reciprocity with Greenlandic communities.
