Community engagement

Find your community abroad

Students who had the best study abroad experiences immersed themselves in the local community: joining clubs, celebrating local traditions, or volunteering. Whether you’re a semester or summer student, here are some ways to make the city feel like home.

Connect with your community through DIS partnerships

DIS has partnerships and connections with local organizations and groups in Stockholm and Copenhagen. You can use your DIS Navigate app to see a list of recommended groups, or visit the Student Hub and talk to our staff for help finding the resources you need.

Middle (sports activity):
Students play volleyball together in an indoor gym.

Join a local club, sports team, or volunteer organizations

Many past DIS students have used their time abroad to dig into their favorite hobbies and meet new people through an activity. Our students have made friendships through rowing, running, soccer, religious groups, language clubs, and volunteering.

Explore the city through local festivals and events

Both Stockholm and Copenhagen are bursting with cultural events all year round. From documentary and music festivals to culture nights and seasonal holidays, you’ll have opportunities to join in on everything happening in your city.
