Why study abroad?

What experiences can you gain overseas? How do you know if a study abroad is right for you?

Deciding to go abroad is a big decision, but doing so can help you see the world from a new perspective.

Why should I study abroad?

Invest in your future

A term abroad exposes you to new opportunities and an expansive network of connections that will prove invaluable as you transition into the professional world.

Many colleges and universities offer financial aid for students wishing to pursue studying abroad. We are similarly committed to making this experience as accessible to as many students as possible.

Broaden your academic perspective

Studying abroad is an opportunity to explore what you’re passionate about in a global context.

Surrounded by students from various universities, taught by new faculty, and living in a new country, you’ll encounter new voices and different perspectives.

Consider the ways this experience will broaden or transform your understanding of your field of study.

Study abroad is a complete departure from the familiar, where stepping outside of your comfort zone is almost inevitable.

You may encounter situations you’ve never had to navigate before. In these moments, you’ll need to tap into available resources, find solutions, and advocate for yourself. However, you are not alone—DIS is here to help you.

The skills you develop during these experiences will be critical to your growth and will continue to benefit you long after your time abroad.

Take the leap

Study abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity, unlike any college semester or travel experience.

Throughout your time abroad, you’ll adopt a new routine, immersing yourself in a new language and culture. You’ll travel, meet locals, and connect with like-minded students. These experiences will give you a new perspective and expand your worldview.

Seize the opportunity to try something new and lean into the uncertainty—you may come away with a deeper understanding of both yourself and the world around you.

What makes DIS different?

At DIS, a successful study abroad experience is built on strong academics and meaningful cultural experiences.

Easy credit transfer
We know that credits are crucial in making sure you graduate on time. During course registration, our team will advise you based on your home university’s specific academic needs, ensuring an easy credit transfer at the end of the term.

No hidden costs
We want to be transparent when it comes to the cost breakdown of tuition and fees. As a non-profit organization, it is our policy to keep the price to a minimum while incorporating several extra benefits into the cost such as study tours, textbooks, commuting fees, and more.

Access to resources
Living abroad is a big transition, and we want to provide you with the necessary support. In both our Stockholm and Copenhagen locations, we have a fully staffed Student Hub, where you can go with any questions or concerns.

Freedom of course selection
With over 300 academically challenging courses to chose from between our Copenhagen and Stockholm semester and summer options, you can mix and match courses to meet your requirements and passions.

Learn by doing
Our curriculum embraces experiential learning, using Europe as your classroom. Through weekly Field Studies and Study Tours, you’ll connect course concepts to real-world settings and engage in meaningful discussions with faculty and classmates.

A variety of housing options
A home base that makes you feel safe and comfortable is really important during your time abroad. We offer four different housing types, where you can choose which would be the best fit for you socially and culturally.

Plenty of ways to meet the locals
Both Danes and Swedes are deeply passionate about their hobbies. The Student Hub helps students connect with local sports teams, clubs, and volunteer groups across the city.
