About this course
Scandinavia has some of the highest representations of women in positions of power in the world, and Scandinavian women are known to be independent and sexually liberated. This course analyzes the historical and sociological foundations for the strong position of women in Scandinavia. Analyze media representations of female leaders and explore how norms about gender equality and ‘proper’ behavior enable or complicate women’s rise to power. The course includes case studies of female leaders in the Danish political and corporate arena.
