What is the role of the curator in culture and society today? This hands-on course delves into the art scenes of both Stockholm and Venice to examine how and why art exhibitions and other cultural experiences are conceived, produced, and presented.
Curators work with artists, institutions, researchers, and other members of society to shape public debate and create new experiences for audiences. Through site visits in Stockholm and on study tour in Venice you will meet key figures in the arts, gaining firsthand insights into curating and arts management today.
We will examine key developments in curating while engaging in contemporary debates around representation, AI and new technologies, activism, and the evolving roles of institutions in the cultural sector.

About this tour
Our study tour to Venice offers firsthand insights into one of the world’s classic, and yet most dynamic, cultural hubs. Home to both art and architecture biennales, Venice blends cutting-edge contemporary art and culture with deep historical roots. During our five days in Venice, we will experience major international exhibitions, explore new institutions housed in historic palazzos, and engage with classical art and architecture in this special location.

Possible activities
Explore the Venice Biennale for either art or architecture (in alternating years)
