About this course

Our soil and water resources are under increasing pressure. Erosion, pollution and climate change are all posing risks to the health of those vital resources. Being able to describe, measure and analyse environmental state is the first step when wanting to protect them. Throughout this course, we will develop the skillset required to assess the environment.

We will focus on the collection and analysis of soil and water samples and will address the influence of previous ice ages on the present-day conditions found in Denmark today.

Prerequisites

One course in environmental or earth science at university level.

Course note

This course will first run in summer 2027.

Bring appropriate clothing and footwear to stay warm and dry during Field Studies in potential rain and wind. We will walk in places away from roads and paths and you should be confident in moving across slippery and uneven terrain. Solid footwear (hiking boots) is mandatory.

Recommended experience

One year of physics or chemistry at university level is highly recommended.

Sebastian Fabian Jensen Zastruzny

PhD (Geography-Geosciences, University of Copenhagen). Educated in permafrost dynamics at the Centre for Permafrost, IGN. Research on permafrost cores, water samples, climate data series, process based modelling, and effects of future climate change. Conducted fieldwork and taught field courses in Greenland and Denmark multiple times.With DIS since 2023.
