Long Study Tour

About this tour

Together with Vienna, London, and Paris, Zurich emerged as a central psychoanalytic hub, with the Zurich-based psychoanalytic institutes having contributed significantly to developments in psychological, psychotherapeutic, and psychoanalytic thought. Through a visit to the city, and to organizations which are the keystones of Zurich’s psychoanalytic community, we will gain a deep appreciation for the formative elements of psychotherapeutic treatment.

Learning outcomes

  • Develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Carl Jung’s psychoanalytic theory and psychotherapeutic approach
  • Develop an understanding of the ways in which the analyst’s developmental history, early family relationships, and sociopolitical context informed his theories
  • Clarify the links between current psychotherapeutic trends and the influences of original analytic thinking, and engage critically with this

Possible activities

  • Zurich is the home of the International School of Analytic Psychology, the only full-time psychoanalytic training in Jungian psychoanalysis and psychotherapy internationally. We will visit the organization, and receive a presentation from a longstanding member
  • Visit Bollingen Tower, a building which Jung himself constructed, and which reveals a great deal about his life, his mental state, and his emotional investments.
  • Visit Jung’s House Museum to deepen our understanding of his life and his creative work
