About this course
The Danish Language & Culture course at DIS is your ideal entry point for living and studying abroad in Denmark. This focused section introduces you to Danish culture through the study of film and TV series while also developing your ability to understand and communicate in spoken Danish.
Through close observation and critical engagement with Danish cinema and television, we will explore central themes in Danish history and society such as national identity, trust, humor, the welfare state, and everyday life. We will examine stylistic traits, recurring themes, and production methods that characterize Danish media, including the influence of state-supported broadcasting and the international impact of Danish storytelling traditions.
Language learning focuses on spoken, everyday Danish, reading and listening comprehension, as well as basic grammar, allowing you to interact in simple and practical ways in your local surroundings. This functional approach is reflected in classroom interactions, hands-on exercises, and experiential learning through Field Studies in Copenhagen and surrounding areas.
