Copenhagen

As a DIS Copenhagen semester student, you will receive full Europæiske coverage until you receive your Danish Civil Registration Number (CPR) card, which qualifies you as a legal resident of Denmark who can access the Danish social system and receive free health benefits. You will still receive some coverage from Europæiske after you receive your CPR card. You will apply for your CPR card after you arrive in Denmark, and we will send you more information closer to your arrival date.

Visiting a doctor before you’ve received your CPR card

If you would like to see a doctor but have NOT received your CPR card yet, this section is for you. If you have received your CPR card, please call the doctor listed on your card.

The following doctors frequently see DIS students and are located in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. Appointments can only be made over the telephone during specific telephone hours.

You will need to pay cash for your doctor’s visit, which may cost between 500-800 DKK. However, if you keep the receipt and fill out an insurance claim form, you can be reimbursed. As a student at DIS Copenhagen, visits to a medical doctor, hospitalization, prescriptions, and prescribed medicine are covered by the DIS student insurance.

Copenhagen ‘Doctor Operator’

If you are unable to get an appointment with any of the above doctors, you can call 70 20 15 46 to request an appointment.

Visiting a doctor after you’ve received your CPR card

You are assigned an English-speaking doctor in your neighborhood. The doctor’s name and contact information is listed on your CPR card.

Visiting a dentist

Dental care is not covered by Denmark’s national insurance, nor the DIS student insurance, but dental care in Denmark is generally reasonably priced.

Need immediate medical advice?

If you don’t feel well and it is not an emergency, call Denmark’s emergency medical advice line, 1813. The nurse on the line can advise you on whether you should contact your general practitioner, or go to a local emergency room. They can also tell you the clinic or emergency room with the shortest waiting times.

If you feel you have a medical emergency and require help immediately, call 112 instead.

Stockholm

As a semester student at DIS Stockholm, your visits to the doctor, hospitalization, prescriptions, and prescribed medicine are covered by the DIS comprehensive health insurance.

Visiting a doctor

You will be able to visit any doctor in Sweden, but because you will be in Sweden for less than a year, there are a few things you need to know. While you might need to pay a general visiting fee of 1,800 SEK out of pocket, you will be reimbursed through your insurance.

Many DIS students book appointments with Sartwell Creek Health. Sartwell Creek Health is near DIS, and they accept in-person and video appointments. When you book an appointment online, your insurance will cover your visit automatically.

Visiting a dentist

Dental care is not covered under DIS insurance. If you wish to go to the dentist, we suggest asking a Swedish roommate or friend for local recommendations.

Need immediate medical advice?

Call Sweden’s National Healthcare Counseling Service at 1177. The line is open every hour of the day to talk with trained nurses, and you can speak to someone in English. The nurse on the line can advise you on whether you should contact a general practitioner, or go to a local emergency room or urgent care clinic.

If you have a medical emergency and require help immediately, call 112 instead.

Summer

Visiting a doctor in Scandinavia

Most visits to the doctor, hospitalization, prescriptions, and prescribed medicine are covered by the DIS comprehensive health insurance.

Because you are in Scandinavia for such a short time, you will likely have to pay fees out of pocket and then file for insurance reimbursement. Refer to the Stockholm or Copenhagen resources depending on where you’re studying.
