Preparing to Study at DIS
DIS North American Office
The DIS North American Office staff is available to answer any questions you might have before leaving for your summer with DIS! If you should need help or have questions in the meantime, contact them by calling 800-247-3477 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your DIS Registration
Your Student Registration acts as a checklist of what information you must submit to DIS. Be sure to complete the ‘Required Steps’ components of registration as soon as possible.
Your Online Pre-Departure Course
Before your term begins, you will receive an invitation to Compass, your DIS online pre-departure course. This course was designed by alumni and DIS staff to answer frequently asked questions and serve as a resource for you before and during you time abroad. It is mandatory to complete before arrival at DIS.
Communication from DIS
Check your email regularly! You are responsible for staying up-to-date on pre-departure communication from DIS. Set up your email account to accept emails from ‘@dis.dk’, and look for the following:
- From registration to arrival: You will complete the Compass Course; meanwhile DIS will send newsletters of important arrival and registration information as well as helpful pre-departure advice
- Six to eight weeks before arrival: DIS will issue invoices either to you directly or to your home university
Learn more on the Tuition and Fees pages
- Ten days before arrival: DIS will email your DIS arranged housing placement
Reflect Before You Arrive
Your summer abroad may be the first time you have ever left your home country. Allow yourself some time to reflect on some uncertainties you may have. What will challenge you when living in a new culture with different societal norms than those you are used to? How will you meet locals while studying at DIS?
Equip yourself with knowledge of the cultures and customs, share nervous emotions with friends, family, and your study abroad advisor, and fuel yourself with ideas from past students. When you finally arrive, you will be so glad you did your research, as you will be ready to make the most of your summer abroad!
