When you arrive for your summer in Scandinavia, we believe it’s important for you to get an immediate feel for your new home and surroundings. From greeting you at the airport to orienting you to DIS, your new city, and the local culture, the Arrival Workshop is created to make sure you are empowered to make the most of your time abroad.
On the official start date of the program, DIS staff greet you at either Copenhagen Airport in Denmark or Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden, depending on where your first summer session is located. From the airport, you are transported to your housing, where you get settled and familiarize yourself with your new home.
To help you make a smooth transition, DIS holds a mandatory Arrival Workshop during your first day that prepares you to navigate cross-cultural experiences, get a sense of your new city, and meet DIS staff and your classmates. During this day, you get to experience the city through the DIScover Copenhagen or DIScover Stockholm interactive walking tours.
DIScover Copenhagen and DIScover Stockholm
You and a team of fellow DIS students navigate your way around your new city to historical landmarks using one of the DIS-curated walking routes. This is a great opportunity to bond with your classmates and get to know your surroundings.
If you study at the same location during your summer and are taking multiple sessions, you will only attend the Arrival Workshop during your first session with DIS.
Arrival Workshop for Mix and Match Students
If you are a Mix and Match Student (you are taking courses at both DIS Stockholm and DIS Copenhagen), your orientation program may vary each session. This Workshop is mandatory and information about it will be communicated to you before you travel to your new DIS location.
