Consideration for
attendance modification

DIS Academic Support fosters an inclusive and intellectually stimulating learning community and has outlined the following agreement.

By utilizing the Consideration for Attendance Modification accommodation, I agree to the following terms of this agreement:

  • The Consideration for Attendance Modification accommodation is for episodic, disability-related episodes or flare ups only. This accommodation requires that I communicate with my faculty proactively, before missing a class. If I experience a flare-up of my condition that does not allow for advance notice, I must notify my faculty within 24 hours of the missed class. This accommodation cannot be accessed retroactively, following the 24-hour period.
  • Due to the experiential nature of the DIS Program, attendance is mandatory and active engagement and participation in classes, field studies and study tours are essential elements of the course. Any missed class, field study or study tour component can impact my grades and progress in the course.
  • Even with the use of this accommodation, if I miss too many class sessions and required course components, my grade will be negatively impacted and I may be unable to complete the course. Under these circumstances, it may also be determined that I am ineligible to continue at DIS.
  • The Consideration for Attendance Modification does not extend to absences for other reasons or for non-disability related illnesses such as seasonal illnesses, infectious diseases, or viral illnesses.
  • I understand that the Consideration for Attendance Modification does not automatically allow for extended deadlines for assignments or imply make-up dates for assessments that occur on the day missed. If an assignment is due the day I am absent from class, the assignment should still be submitted.
  • Prior to using my accommodation, I will give my accommodation letter to each of my faculty and review my syllabi for the following:
    • Field studies and guest lectures which cannot be made up, so that I am aware of the possible impacts on my grades
    • Study tours which are mandatory
  • I will contact my faculty with any questions based on what I read in the syllabi.
  • I will contact Academic Support in Copenhagen at academicsupport@dis.dk or in Stockholm at acadsupport@disstockholm.se during the start of the semester if I need any support with arranging this accommodation, or for additional information or questions.
  • I understand that violation of this agreement may result in the withdrawal of the accommodation. Further, I understand that a violation of this agreement may subject me to discipline under the DIS Code of Student Responsibility and referral to my home school for review under their conduct code.
