You are enrolled in courses based on primary and alternative choices indicated in the Course Registration, which is submitted to DIS prior to the start of your semester. All changes in course enrollment must be arranged through online registration or the Office of Academic Support and not through individual instructors.
Adding and Dropping Courses
DIS will accept course additions during the first days of the semester (see semester schedule on Canvas for drop/add deadlines) under the following conditions:
(a) The class you want to enroll in is not full
(b) You have an academic reason for wanting to make the change
(c) Your final course load does not exceed 17 semester hours of credit
You may drop courses until the published deadline, as long as you continue to meet the requirements of your home university for full-time study. DIS requires a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit, which will be made up from 3- or 6-credit courses. (Note: that several home universities demand a higher course load).
Different rules pertain to the summer programs.
Plus (+) and minus (-) grades are used for exams and home assignments as well as for final grades. For purposes of calculating grade points and averages, the ‘+’ is equal to plus .3 and the ‘-‘ is equal to minus .3.
The average of the individual grades multiplied by their respective weights determines the final grade as indicated on the right below:
|Grade = Points||Grade = Percentage|
|A = 4||A = 93 to 100%|
|A- = 3.7||A- = 90 to less than 93%|
|B+ = 3.3||B+ = 87 to less than 90%|
|B = 3||B = 83 to less than 87%|
|B- = 2.7||B- = 80 to less than 83%|
|C+ = 2.3||C+ = 77 to less than 80%|
|C = 2||C = 73 to less than 77%|
|C- = 1.7||C- = 70 to less than 73%|
|D+ = 1.3||D+ = 67 to less than 70%|
|D = 1||D = 63 to less than 67%|
|D- = 0.7||D- =60 to less than 63%|
|F = 0||F = 0 to less than 60%|
Contingent on your home school allowing you to do so, you are allowed to take one course per semester on a Pass/Fail basis at DIS. If you wish to take a course Pass/Fail, you must confirm this with the Office of Academic Support at firstname.lastname@example.org prior to the deadline given in the semester schedule. In order to receive a Pass (P) in a course, a C- or better is required (unless your home school requires higher grade for a pass).
Final Exam Results
DIS faculty are expected to report final grades to the Office of Academic Support. Final grades are typically sent out within 30 days of the end of the program.
Final Grade Reports
When all semester grades are reported by faculty to the Office of Academic Support (in Denmark), the North American Office will issue a Final Grade Report which is the transcript of your academic performance in the DIS program.
This Final Grade Report is prepared and distributed in three copies:
- The original is sent immediately to the coordinating university from where it will be forwarded to your home institution
- A Student’s Copy will be sent to your email address
- Click here to order a DIS final grade report
Note: Final grades will be withheld if you owe money to DIS or other institutions, if you have not returned library books, or if you have an outstanding restitution because of damage caused to housing or DIS facilities.
