Epidemiology is a cornerstone of public health science. Through case studies, including the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the central concepts of epidemiology, epidemiological research, and reasoning come to life. You analyze and assess epidemiologic studies of the Swedish population and explore the value of the renowned Swedish population-based registers. Throughout the course, you also discuss how epidemiology contributes to the large body of public health research and informs decision making in the field.

Julio César Hernando Rodríguez

Julio Hernando is a postdoctoral researcher at the Unit of Occupational Medicine at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) at Karolinska Institutet. He received a Bachelor’s in Economics in 2010, a Master’s in Public Health in 2016 and a PhD in Biomedicine with a specialisation in Public Health and occupational health from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2020. His research interests are social epidemiology, occupational health, and social and health inequalities. His current research focuses on precarious employment and sickness absence and trajectories of exit from the labour market using register-based data and applying life course methods.
