U.S. State Department Update of Worldwide Caution

March 3rd, 2016

The U.S. Department of State updated the Worldwide Caution on March 3, 2016. Read the statement here. This updates the previous Worldwide Caution, which was last updated in July 2015.

The Worldwide Caution is a longstanding U.S. consular notice that provides information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against U.S. citizens and interests throughout the world.

The Worldwide Caution does not recommend that Americans delay or suspend travel, but instead, emphasizes an ongoing risk. According to the update, “European governments are taking action to guard against terrorist attacks; however, all European countries remain potentially vulnerable.” It recommends that U.S. citizens “maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.” There are currently no new Travel Warnings or Alerts announced in association with this new update. Reference the Travel Warnings and Alerts page of their site here.

DIS continues to carefully monitor the European security situation as it relates to our program in Denmark as well as study tours throughout the region. DIS students have received and email regarding the updated worldwide caution. For more information on general health, safety, and security, read through this Health and Safety section..
