DIS Selects Anders Uhrskov Scholarship for Summer 2017

Recipient of the Summer 2017 Anders Uhrskov Scholarship, Laurence Diao of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will study Corporate Social Responsibility and Emerging Markets in Session 1 and 2.

The Anders Uhrskov Leadership Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship awarded to students who possess exceptional leadership skills, demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm for their academics, and embody a passion for global affairs. Laurence has clearly exemplified these qualities in his academic and extracurricular life. Back at UNC Chapel Hill, he is an executive member of the Filipino-American club on campus—perpetuating the importance of multi-cultural solidarity across the student body. Laurence is also an Admissions Ambassador, in which he volunteers his time touring prospective students around campus.

Laurence reflected on his drive to continue his service and global work while studying abroad at DIS Copenhagen, saying,

“I plan to organize an informal group of students to talk about different cultures and perspectives. In light of current issues around the world, I want to facilitate a healthy environment where everyone can openly discuss their opinions and translate them into concrete actions. With regard to my diverse background, I also plan to volunteer in an organization that works with immigrants, as nothing would be more fulfilling than traveling to a different continent only to help fellow immigrants transition into a new world.”

DIS is very excited to see Laurence make an impact during his summer abroad, as one of his professors wrote that he “is one of those rare students who manages to turn a classroom full of strangers into a community of friends.” This spirit will be undoubtedly beneficial for fellow DIS peers and their success.

Congratulations, Laurence! We will see you this summer!
