DIS Stockholm’s inaugural semester has commenced, with students hailing from over 30 North American universities.
Packed with workshops and introductions, Arrival Week oriented students to their new surroundings: DIS, Stockholm, and their housing. Students will be living in Homestays throughout the Greater Stockholm area, as well as Living & Learning Communities within the theme of Outdoor Adventure, and Residential Communities.
Arrival Week kicked off with fika with students and DIS staff, and from there, the schedule was jam-packed! The DIScover Stockholm activity was an opportunity to to explore the old town, Gamla Stan; groups met to discuss topics such as diversity abroad at organized Culture Talks; and tutorial sessions acquainted students with the transportation system.
The Opening Ceremony was a highlight of the week, where music students from the Royal College of Music performed for the group. Students met and heard from DIS Executive Director, Malene Torp, DIS Stockholm Housing & Student Affairs Manager, Marcel Grüninger, and DIS Stockholm faculty member Simone Setterberg, who all spoke about the semester ahead. In addition, the Activities Forum provided information on local communities such as fitness centers, religious communities, and LGBTQ clubs that students could sign up to join.
With the first classes on Thursday, students picked up books and settled into their academic programs, Gender & Sexuality Studies, Medical Practice & Policy, and Psychology. Core Course Week is just around the corner.
DIS will be sharing stories, photos, and videos of the semester on Facebook. Be sure to check the page here, where you can already see updates from the start of the fall 2016 semester!Back to all news
