DIS Staff Published in SIGnals Magazine

DIS staff and faculty member Anders Larsen was published in SIGnals, a magazine written for international students and study abroad students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered.

DIS DIS Copenhagen Semester

The article, entitled ‘Copenhagen: Where Gay is a Little Different,’ discusses the challenges and opportunities in developing a personal identity abroad. Anders provides a brief comparative history of the gay community in New York versus Copenhagen, and suggests how students can use their study abroad experience as a chance to evolve themselves within a new culture.

Anders, who teaches DIS Copenhagen courses The Meaning of Style and London: Reading the City, hopes the article will be useful for students planning to study abroad, saying, “I hope that they will be ready for an experience that is different from what they’re used to. I hope they are ready to accept that identity is a product of the culture they are a part of, and sometimes they have to reconsider who they are when they are in a new context.”
