DIS Alumni Win Global Urban Design Competition

Out of hundreds of student entries from 123 colleges and universities from 40 countries, DIS Urban Design program alumna Michelle Zucker, Penn State, and Architecture program alumna Emily Saunder, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, won this year’s AECOM ‘Urban SOS: Toward a New Industry’ competition.

DIS DIS Copenhagen Semester

Both alumni had decided to further their learning experience in Copenhagen by interning after their semester at DIS, with Michelle at ArkiLab, an urban design firm owned by DIS faculty Rasmus Frisk, and Emily at Cititek, an urban design firm owned by DIS faculty Bianca Hermansen.

Michelle and Emily were chosen among three other finalists to present for an audience at the Center for Architecture in New York City. Their project, Restart Tirupur, focused on improving the quality of a factory within Tirapur, a city on the east coast of India. After much deliberation by the judges, Michelle and Emily won first place and were featured in a special exhibit at the Center for Architecture.
