DIS Hosts the International Educators Conference in Copenhagen

Last week, 100 education abroad professionals, faculty, administrators, academic advisors, and student affairs staff joined DIS faculty and staff for the International Educators Conference (IEC) in Copenhagen.

The week was designed to introduce the DIS student experience to our IEC guests and celebrate 55 years as an organization. The conference began with the Opening Ceremony, where Malene Torp, DIS Executive Director, and Dan Jørgensen, former DIS faculty and the current Danish Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries, shared the DIS identity and mission. Dan Jørgensen spoke about his experience as a DIS faculty and minister, and stressed the importance of empowering students in their position as pioneers in the globalized world of today.

Highlights of the week included faculty presentations of DIS courses, education abroad discussion sessions, small group Hygge Dinners, a reception revolving around New Nordic cuisine, and cultural excursions. The week concluded with five separate three-day, faculty-led short study tours that traveled to either Western Denmark or Southern Sweden, as well as a final dinner held back in Copenhagen at Tivoli Gardens.

The conference was a unique mélange of knowledge sharing in study abroad and engagement in the DIS experience from a student perspective. We thank all IEC guests for participating in a successful week of collaboration!
