The end of February presented an initial exciting opportunity for students to hear from Rufus Gifford, as he spoke at an event hosted by Students Only CPH in the Black Diamond Library. The room was filled with international students from universities in Copenhagen, including DIS. Rufus was interviewed by Danish political expert on the U.S., Torsten Jansen, who moderated the discussion and invited questions from the audience. Hear from DIS Student Blogger, Amanda Melton, who attended the event.

Rufus was highly involved in the re-election of Barack Obama, as he served as the Finance Chair of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. He served as Finance Director for Obama for America from 2011 to 2012, and as Finance Director for the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011. This February, he was featured, along with his partner, in the Danish publication Out and About, which discussed the positive relations between Denmark and the U.S., what it is like being the first openly gay ambassador from the U.S., and his reaction to President Obama’s public support for gay marriage.
